Respond to a classmate who took the opposite position from your own (in favor of technology). Briefly explain your viewpoint to your classmate and challenge them to consider other ways of looking at the issue. 5 sentences or more.

In today’s world, technology is very predominate. Children love it! Everywhere that I go, children are on their phones and tablets. Although technology does provide entertainment and is interactive, children receive way too much technology time and it is affecting their developmental growth. Children are losing out on many opportunities to learn when they’re submerged in their technology. There’s a lack of communication and a lack of exploration. The world around them gets ignored because they are heavily focused on seeing what friends are doing on social media sites, playing application games, and text messaging. Too much technology has also affected the children’s performance in the classrooms. Coughaln (2015) quoted “Investing heavily in school computers and classroom technology does not improve pupils’ performance, says a global study from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. The think tank says frequent use of computers in schools is more likely to be associated with lower results” (p.1). Unfortunately, it seems like children and families do not understand the limitations and guiding principles of the use of technology. NAEYC have created guided laminations that educators and families can use to eliminate the negative implications of technology. According to Parikh (n.d.) some DAP strategies are to give the proper amount of screen time, monitor the children while engaged in technology to assure it is child friendly, limit passiveness found in technology, and provided interactive response during those times. I believe that if educators and parents followed these limitations then the children can become social explorers and truly flourish in their overall development.
